Overview
Signal is a read-only Hacker News discovery app. It does not require an account. It is supported by Google AdMob banner ads and does not include Clarved analytics in v1.
Searches
Search terms, filters, author names, domains, and time windows are sent directly from the app to the public HN Search API powered by Algolia so results can be returned. Signal does not operate a separate backend for these requests.
Data Stored on Your Device
The app stores the following locally on your device:
- Saved lenses
- Bookmarked stories
- Recent searches
- Reading history used to dim stories you have already opened
This local data is not synced to a Clarved server.
External Links
Signal opens article URLs and Hacker News discussion URLs in Safari. Those websites may have their own privacy practices.
Advertising
Signal uses Google AdMob to display banner ads. Google may process advertising data to deliver, measure, and improve ads. Where required, Signal uses Google's consent flow so you can manage advertising privacy choices.
What We Do Not Collect
- No account information
- No location data
- No contacts, photos, camera, microphone, or HealthKit data
- No tracking across other apps or websites
