Privacy Policy

Overview

Lex is an iOS Scrabble dictionary. Your privacy is simple: word lookups happen entirely on your device, no account is required, and we do not track you across other apps or websites.

Data Stored on Your Device

The app stores the following locally on your device:

• Recent lookups (the words you have checked, capped at the most recent 200)
• App settings and preferences
• In-app purchase status (whether ads are removed)

None of this data is transmitted to any server. You can clear the recent-lookups history at any time from the Recent tab.

Word Lookups

The full word list (SOWPODS / Collins Scrabble Words) and the definitions database (WordNet 3.1, public-domain Webster entries, derived forms, and Lex coverage fallbacks) are bundled inside the app. Every lookup is processed on-device. Your search queries are never transmitted to any server.

Advertising

Lex displays a single banner advertisement on the Search screen via Google AdMob. The Google Mobile Ads SDK may collect device identifiers and usage data as described in Google's Privacy Policy. You can remove the ad with a one-time In-App Purchase.

Where required by law (EU/UK/EEA), Lex presents Google's User Messaging Platform consent dialog so you can choose how your data is used for advertising. You can change your choices at any time from the “Manage Ad Privacy Choices” option in Settings (only shown where applicable).

Lex may also request App Tracking Transparency permission so ads can be more relevant. Declining is fully supported and does not affect any other functionality of the app.

In-App Purchases

Lex offers a non-consumable In-App Purchase to remove ads. The transaction is processed entirely by Apple via StoreKit. We do not receive or store any payment information.

Anonymous Product Analytics

Lex sends anonymous, aggregate product analytics (powered by PostHog) to help us understand which features are used and how often words are looked up. These events do not include personal information, user identifiers, the specific words you query, or anything that could be tied back to you.

What We Don't Collect

• No personal information or account details
• No location data
• No contacts, photos, microphone, or camera access
• No HealthKit data
• No specific search queries are transmitted off your device
• No data is sold or shared with third parties

Permissions

The app may request the following permission:

• App Tracking Transparency — Optional. Used by AdMob to deliver more relevant ads. You can decline without affecting any functionality of the app.

Data Retention & Deletion

All on-device data (recent lookups, settings) is stored locally. To delete all data, delete the app or use the “Clear history” button on the Recent tab. There is no cloud backup or sync.

Children's Privacy

Lex is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children.

Changes to This Policy

If we update this policy, we will revise the effective date above. Continued use of the app after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
