Privacy Policy

Overview

WeatherGlass is an iOS weather app that shows forecasts, live radar, air quality, and historical weather data. Your privacy is simple: no account is required, no personal data leaves your device except coordinates sent in API requests for weather data, and we do not track you.

Data Stored on Your Device

The app stores the following locally on your device:

  • Saved locations (city name, latitude, longitude)
  • Temperature and wind speed unit preferences
  • Cached weather data for the widget and offline viewing

This data is stored in App Group UserDefaults shared between the app and its widget extension. None of it is transmitted to any server.

Location

WeatherGlass requests “When In Use” location permission to fetch weather for your current position. Your coordinates are sent to the Open-Meteo API to retrieve local weather data. Location is not stored on any remote server and is only used at the moment of the API request.

You can deny location permission and still use the app by adding locations manually via the search feature.

Network Requests

The app makes HTTPS requests to the following Open-Meteo endpoints:

  • api.open-meteo.com — current conditions and forecasts
  • archive-api.open-meteo.com — historical weather data
  • air-quality-api.open-meteo.com — air quality index
  • geocoding-api.open-meteo.com — location search

These requests contain only coordinates and requested weather variables. No API key, user ID, device identifier, or personal information is included. Open-Meteo is an open-source project; see their terms of service for details.

Advertising

WeatherGlass displays banner ads served by Google AdMob. AdMob may collect advertising identifiers and device information to serve contextual ads. We do not enable personalized advertising or request App Tracking Transparency permission. You can permanently remove all ads with a one-time in-app purchase (“Remove Ads”).

What We Don't Collect

  • No analytics or usage tracking
  • No user accounts or registration
  • No contacts, photos, or camera access
  • No HealthKit or fitness data
  • No personal data is sold or shared with third parties

Permissions

The app may request the following permission:

  • Location (When In Use) — Used to fetch weather for your current position. Optional; you can use saved locations instead.

Data Retention & Deletion

All data is stored locally on your device. To delete all data, delete the app. There is no cloud backup, sync, or remote storage.

Children's Privacy

WeatherGlass is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children.

Changes to This Policy

If we update this policy, we will revise the effective date above. Continued use of the app after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
